
Guangxi-Thailand Promotion for Economics and Trade held in Bangkok on 9th May. By the time the Promotion ended, the representatives from Guangxi and Thailand signed US$120 million worth of contacts on trade and investment.
Ma Biao said, since Guangxi became a part of the Greater Mekong Sub-regional Cooperation in 2005, the communication and cooperation between Guangxi and Thailand has entered into a new and fast-developing stage. Last year, the trade volume between the two areas was US$126 million, an increase of 41.9%, now ranking fourth place among ASEAN countries. At the end of last year, Thailand had formed 114 foreign-funded enterprises in Guangxi, with a capital of US$256 million, ranking second place among ASEAN countries.
At present, Guangxi and Thailand’s Surattanee have established a friendly regional relationship. Nanning, Wuzhou, and Liuzhou have joined with Khongan, Zhantaburee, and Rayong respectively.
Ma Biao also hopes the government and enterprises of Thailand will put more effort and support into the Exposition, and join hands with Guangxi to host the Exposition successfully. Mingkwan, Deputy Premier and Commerce Minister of Thailand, spoke highly of the friendly relationship between China and Thailand in his address today. He also said that the China-ASEAN Exposition has become a vital platform for Thailand and Guangxi, as well as ASEAN and China, to cooperate in economics, trade, investment and other fields. The government and business circle of Thailand attach great importance to the China-ASEAN Exposition. The number of participants of the Expo is increasing yearly. By now there are 169 entrepreneurs from Thailand that have signed applications to participate in the Fifth China-ASEAN Exposition this year.
